Pads that often get "stuck" or "stain" your floors over time are often manufactured low quality PVC or cured with chemicals that may react with your hardwood finishes (polyurethane, lacquered, or acryllic).
If your floors are treated with glossy finishes, such as polyurethane finished flooring - our recommendations are as follows:
- −Econo-Lock Natural
- −Super-Lock Natural
- −Eco-Fiber Felt
- −Eco-Cushion Organic
- −Eco-Solid Organic
Make sure you wait at least 1 month after refinishing your floors before using any type of rug pad. It usually takes between 1-3 weeks for your hardwood finishes to cure and stabilize and therefore we recommend 1 month as a precaution.
Our pads range from 1/16” (Econo-Lock) to 1/2” (Eco-Fiber). A thicker rug pad (1/4”-1/2”) will help to cushion your area rugs and help reduce premature rug wear. Over the course of many years, a quality rug pad will help prolong the life of that area rug, especially a thicker pad. Did you know that dirt is the number 1 cause of rug degradation? The best rug pads will create a solid buffer between your area rug and hardwood floors, which in turn facilitate vacuuming and grooming to keep your rug looking fresh.
For larger room rugs, we typically recommend a thick rug pad to add comfort for large room rugs. Thinner products like our Eco-Solid, Superior-Lock, and Super-Lock Natural pads are preferred for runner rugs and smaller area rugs more prone to slipping. They will grip a bit better than our thicker rug pads and won't cause people to trip in high traffic areas (a cushioned rug pad on a thicker area rug might be too thick). Our 1/16" inch ultra thin pads like our Econo-Lock and Econo-Lock Natural wont grip as well as our Super-Lock and Eco-Solid pads, but are perfect when thickness and door clearance is an issue.
Our best rug pad, or most popular rug pad for hardwood floors depends on the subjects area rug and the customers flooring.
For smaller area rugs, our most popular pads are - Super-Lock Natural, Eco-Solid, and Superior-Lock rug pads.
For larger area rugs, our most popular rug pads are Eco-Fiber (100% felt), Premium-Lock, and Eco-Cushion.
